A Little Catch Up
This is a bit embarrassing and perhaps reveals the depths of my obsession with food.
But, one of my favourite things to do instead of doom scrolling on my phone, is to locate a small town in a random country (say Japan) on Google maps, and click on the restaurant tab. All of the restaurants in that local area pop up, with their star ratings, menu, photos, website, reviews…and I get lost in exploring the infinite number of cute roadside cafes, wholesome izakayas (Japanese casual gastropubs), and so much more.
This adorable spot in Hokkaido (North Japan) for example is a dark wooden cottage in the middle of a snowy forest, serving dishes from miso soup to tokachi rice.
I love to travel, but I can’t travel 24/7. So, I guess this hobby (?) is a weird form of escapism for me. It’s a way to travel virtually, without actually getting on a plane. And I always save these little gems, just in case I do end up going to the remote town of Sarabetsu one day…who knows?!
Is it just me who does this? Am I a bit weird? Maybe…haha. But I thoroughly enjoy it.
3 High Protein Breakfast Ideas
I’m really enjoying posting on YouTube.
It takes a lot of time and effort, and consistency…but long form content is a really fun way to get more of my personality across and connect with this little community in a much deeper way than say on IG or TikTok. So, if you fancy joining our food-loving corner on YouTube, feel free to subscribe!
This Week’s Recipes
Fire Cabbage - This Fire Cabbage recipe takes inspiration from Buldak (fire chicken), a Korean dish that's spicy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious. The roasted cabbage wedges are placed in a sweet gochujang sauce with fried shallots, garlic, and ginger. Topped with mozzarella and garnished with chives, this is a deliciously easy dish for when you just can't be bothered to cook.
Taco-Style Beef Stuffed Peppers - These Stuffed Peppers with Ground Beef and Rice are an easy weeknight meal that I think you're going to love. Seasoned with cumin, paprika, dried oregano, and chillipowder, they integrate taco-inspired flavours with black beans and salsa.
Spinach Dal with Chickpeas - This is my easy Spinach Dal, also known as Dal Palak. It's a simple recipe made using whole spices including cumin seeds and mustard seeds with turmeric, ginger, garlic, and shallots as aromatics. We're using chickpeas as our legume and creating a gorgeously green spinach and cottage cheese gravy for the dal. It's a great midweek meal and stores really well for meal prep.
As always, let me know if you give any of these recipes a go!
I’ll see you next week. Have a glorious weekend.
