Recipe Round Up & My Favourite Food Podcasts I Listen To On Repeat!
There's nothing better than making dinner with a great podcast in the background.
Happy Friday people!
I don’t know about you but this week has FLOWN by! How’s it been for you??
I’ve been in Yorkshire on a PR trip with Asda, staying in the first ever FoodTok house with a bunch of wonderful food creators! The week involved lots of eating, cooking, and activities including a wine tasting session, a Asda product taste-test, and a summer banquet prepared by Asda’s top chefs! It was a lovely few days and I feel like I was spoilt rotten!
This week was jam-packed full of content creation and events, so sadly, I only got round to uploading one recipe! But, don’t worry, I’ve added in a couple of my old favourite recipes in this week’s recipe round-up too!
The Weekly Recipe Round-Up
Homemade Kewpie Mayonnaise - I love store-bought Kewpie Mayonnaise, but I've really got into making my own mayonnaise over the past couple of years and it just tastes so good! So, here's how to make my Homemade Kewpie Mayo, aka, Japanese mayonnaise.
Indian-Inspired Breakfast Paratha - This Indian-Inspired Breakfast Paratha is an easy breakfast idea for you that is full of flavour and simple to make. Filled with spinach, mushroom, cheese, and mango chutney, this eggy paratha number is one of my favourite things to eat in the morning. Click here for the recipe!
Miso-Marinated Eggs - These are so addictive! They're easy to make and are hands down my new favourite way of preparing eggs! Click here for the recipe!
My Favourite Food Podcasts I Listen To On Repeat!
What do you do in your spare time? Cause I love listening to podcasts…they relax me, they entertain me, and they educate me. They’re one of my favourite things to listen to when making dinner, going to the gym, or sitting on the tube. So, having explored a huge number of food-focused podcasts, I’ve chosen 5 of my favourite podcasts all revolved around food that I think you might enjoy listening to! Some are more chatty, and some more factful, but they’re all music to my ears (and hopefully your ears too!). So, let’s kick things off with one of my favourite foodie podcasts…
1. Desert Island Dishes with Margie Nomura
Overview - This podcast is hosted by the glorious Margie Nomura who interviews high profile guests about their seven desert island dishes that have shaped who they are today. Margie has shared episodes with the likes of Stanley Tucci, Alison Roman, and David Gandy, shining light on their upbringing and how they’ve got to where they are today. From discussing their favourite childhood dish, to their go-to sandwich recipe, it’s such an inspirational and yet relaxing podcast to listen to!
Episode Recommendations - Ooo, they’re all very good. If I had to choose three to listen to…it would be the following:
2. Gastropod with Co-hosts Cynthia Graber and Nicola Twilley
Overview - Gastropod looks at food through the lens of science and history, and it such an interesting podcast to listen to when your brain is craving knowledge! Their episodes look at the hidden story and science behind different food and/or farming-related topics. They interview experts, visit labs, and discover new ways to understand the world through food. It’s honestly so fascinating, and I used to listen to this podcast nearly every day during covid…it was such an escape and I loved it (still do!!).
Episode Recommedations - They have SO many episodes, and I have listened to SO many of them (they’re all amazing). But, here are three that stood out for me!
3. Take A Bao with Jun (from Jun & Tonic)
Overview - Take A Bao is a beautiful podcast exploring everything around Asian food. “From unpacking the origins of rice and rendang, to deep dives into the depths of Chinese tea and Vietnamese pho, this show aims to give voice to the intriguing food stories of Asia. Jun chats with chefs, farmers, food writers, and eaters, and really celebrates the food of Asia, giving it the representation it deserves!”. It’s honestly such a fascinating podcast that dives deep into specific ingredients, ways of Asian life, and iconic dishes. I’ve learnt the most wonderful things from this podcast, and I think you’ll thoroughly enjoy it! It’s only 10 episodes long, so just listen to it from start to finish to get a great overview!
Episode Recommendations - As I mentioned above, it’s only got a handful of episodes…and I really hope they keep going! Here are three episodes I found interesting:
4. The Food Programme by BBC Radio 4
Overview - The Food Programme is a wonderful podcast exploring everything and anything to do with food. It’s hosted by Sheila Dillon, Dan Saladino, Leyla Kazim and Jaega Wise. The podcast varies from an in-depth exploration of a certain type of food, industry, or ingredient, to interviews with well-known people in the food industry.
Episode Recommendations - I have listened to this podcast religiously for years, so there are dozens of episodes I’d recommend. But, here are three that I would listen to again and again:
5. The Food Medic with Dr. Hazel Wallace
Overview - This is a brilliant podcast hosted by medical doctor, personal trainer, blogger, and author, Dr. Hazel Wallace. It explores all kinds of topics discussed by “leading experts in their field who share evidence based advice on how to live healthier lives and cut through the confusing information on the internet”. It’s beautifully structured and I always learn something new from listening to it! I must admit, it’s not solely focused around food…it’s more of a holistic journey including health and wellbeing!
Episode Recommendations - Whichever episode I’m listening to, I always learn a new fact or piece of information. So, it’s tricky to just pick three episodes, but if I had to choose, I’d recommend checking out the following…
That’s all for this week’s newsletter my little chickpeas! I hope you enjoyed my podcast suggestions, and feel free to send me a DM or email with your thoughts! See you next week!
Em xoxo
